Black Metal is one of the most sought-after resources inValheim. Players can use the metal to craft some of the game’s most powerful weapons at the forge. Black Metal is the product of refined Black Metal Scrap. To get the scrap, gamers will need to progress all the way to the Plains Biome.

While in the players Biome, players will want to pursue obtaining the Black Metal tier weapons, as they are some ofthe best in the game. Even those that use the Porcupine, Frostner, or Draugr Fang can use the Black Metal Axe for woodchopping duties. Accumulating a lot of Black Metal is easy if players follow the steps outlined below.
Getting Black Metal Scraps
TheFulings in the Plains Biome will drop Black Metal Scrapwhen killed. Smaller Fulings will drop 1-4, and Fuling Berserkers will drop 4-16. Both of these enemies are dangerous, especially the 2* Fulings. Players can always find these creatures in the small shanty camps in the Plains Biome.

Small Fulings can pack a punch, but are only a real threat when several of them chase the player. Berserkers deal a massive amount of damage, with a 2* blunt damage of 260. Before setting out to take on these enemies, survivors will want to havePadded Armor and upgraded weapons. There are a few strategies to take down these camps with less health, however.
Taking On A Fuling Camp
Fulings are formidable opponents in a one on one fight, but seemingly indefeatable as a unit. Using a bow to pick off the smaller creatures from range will make conquering the camp a bit easier. TheDraugr Fang is the best bowin the game, so it will bethe proper weapon to usewhen silently killing the smaller enemies on the ground and in the watchtowers.
Once those little guys have been dealt with, survivors can focus on eliminating the Berserkers, which provide a much better yield per kill. It is important to parry their blunt attacks because they can take down an entire health bar relatively quickly.

The Pacifist Route
Anyone worried about fighting the Fulings canloot the many chests in each camp. These chests have a large quantity of Black Metal Scrap, and for most players, looting these chests will provide enough for their crafting needs. Sneak in, loot, and dart for the hills.
The Fulings will be angered and chase for a little while, but they will lose interest eventually. After performing the heist on a few villages, gamers can fill a chest with Black Metal Scrap.

Turning Scrap Into Black Metal
First, players will need a Blast Furnace — a guide on how to craft one can be found in ourguide on Smelters and Blast Furnaces. The Blast Furnace will allow players to refine the scrap into ingot. Players will not be able to craft it until they defeat Moder and collect the following items:

To power the Blast Furnace, gamers will need to gather Coal.Surtlingsalways drop Coal, but players can also produce it by burning up wood in the Charcoal Kiln. It takes a Blast Furnace just over 30 seconds to convert scrap to metal, and one Coal will power the Furnace for about 15 seconds. Thankfully, the Blast Furnace can hold up to 10 Scrap and 20 Coal at a time.
Black Metal Weapons & Shields
There is currentlyno Black Metal armor inValheim, which is odd since the other types of metal have armor sets as well. Perhaps the developers will include new Black Metal sets in the future, but for now, all survivors can craft with this material are weapons.
The Black Metal weapon set is themost powerful set in the game. That is not to say that weapons like the Porcupine and Draugr Fang are notsuperior in their selected categories, but it’s hard to go wrong with Black Metal. Listed below are all of the Black Metal weapons and shields, including how much material players will need to craft them.
Survivors will also need to collectFine WoodandLinen Threadto Forge the weapons. Fine Wood is obtained from Oak and Birch trees, while Linen Thread is the product of Flax that has been processed in the Spinning Wheel. Flax can be farmed, but there is plenty of it in the wild near the Fuling Villages. Each of the weapons can be upgraded, but it will take a whopping 260 more Black Metal to do so, so players will have their share of farming to do.
