YouTubestreamer Rachell “Valkyrae” Hofstetter revealed that she paid over $50,000 for her younger sister’s wedding. Since she started streaming, Valkyrae has made it a point to financially support her family.

During a recentYouTube stream, Valkyrae was in aFortnitelobbywith Sykkuno, Natsumiii, and LilyPichu. Natsumiii was asked much she spent on her and BaboAbe’s wedding, which they streamed live to viewers. She didn’t give a specific number, but said that if people wanted to invest on a lavish wedding, it could cost around $20,000 to $50,000. Based on a study by wedding publication The Knot, the average cost for ceremonies and receptions in the US was around $30,000, as of last year.

Then, someone in Sykkuno’sYouTubestream chat pointed out that Valkyrae paid for her sister’s wedding, which she quickly admitted to and said that she paid “way more” than $50,000. She didn’t go into detail as to how much exactly she spent, but emphasized that she did it out of love for her only sibling.

This might seem surprising for Valkyrae’s fans, but it’s not far off considering that sheearns over $100,000 a month from streaming on YouTube. She also reportedly made a generous sum when she was still streaming on Twitch. Plus, Valkyrae co-owns 100 Thieves, an esports and apparel company where she’s also signed as a content creator. As mentioned, she uses the money to help out her family, like paying for the remodeling of her mom’s home, among other things.

Valkyrae is just one of many streamers who’s open about giving back. Her friend and former roommatePokimaneshared a similar story in the past when she paid for her parents' retirement, noting that she felt happy to repay them for their sacrifices after immigrating from Morocco to Canada. Many content creators also donate to charity, even encouraging their community to chip in. A notable example is YouTuber Jacksepticeye, who’s gearing up for his annual Thankmas fundraising event.

It’s not a secret that established streamers and content creators can earn thousands, even millions of dollars monthly. After the massive Twitch leak that revealed streamers' earnings, a study was released earlier this year to determine who the highest paid creator was. The top spot went toMinecraftstreamer Ranboo who made over $2,000 per hour, amounting to around $2 million per month across 1,001 hours of streaming. Despite people’s opinions of streaming culture, it’s undeniable that it can be a lucrative career.
