Summary

2025 has a large variety of titles to look forward to, including Rockstar’s highly anticipatedGrand Theft Auto 6, but it is safe to say eyes are locked on Capcom’sMonster Hunter Wilds. Standing as a new mainline entry to the long-running franchise, fans expect to see the best monster-hunting experience yet, especially withCapcom’s new REX Enginesupposedly being utilized for this game.

WithDragon’s Dogma 2, the sequel to Capcom’s action-packed RPGDragon’s Dogma Dark Arisen, releasing very soon, there will be hope among fans that Capcom will double down on combat from previous installments in theMonster Hunterfranchise while making some new inspired additions from other IPs.

1Take Inspiration From Dragon’s Dogma

One of Capcom’s best titles, which is now resurfacing due to its sequel’s release very soon, featured some of thebest combat among all RPG games. While maintaining plenty of strategy and thought in each encounter, just like theMonster Huntergames, it managed to provide incredibly stylish attacks, maneuvers, executions, and much more in every intense battle.

While there is no doubt thatMonster Hunter Worldand a plethora of older titles in the franchise feature great combat and strategy as aforementioned, it would be great to seeWildswith more stylish and fast-paced combat. DespiteWild Hearts' disappointing failure, its combat was more of a mix ofMonster Huntergames, along with the fast pace of the likes ofDragon’s Dogma, and this could work very well.

2Faster Movement

Movement Speed In Monster Hunter Is Dependent On Weapons And Character Builds

Although there is still so much more to be revealed about the upcoming title, its trailer reveal is enough for fans to realize that there will be faster movement for traversal. It appears as though Capcom is sticking with a focus on using mounts to get around maps, which was the case inMonster Hunter Rise, and less inWorld. While this is fortunate for those who wished for faster traversal in a new game on the same scale asWorld, there will be many who hope to see an overall increase in movement while players are engaged in combat.

A plethora of complaints regardingWorldstemmed from the slow movement while players attempted dodges, attacked, or tried to get close enough to monsters. Since a lot of the fundamentals ofMonster Hunterrevolve around character builds and certain weapons allowing for faster or slower movement, this is understandable from developers, but it would be great to see an increase in speed for actions in combat.

3Matchmaking Filter/Lobby Builder

The Filters In Monster Hunter World & Rise Allow Players To Choose Specific Monster Hunts

If there is any frustrating issue with recentMonster Hunterinstallments that fans have voiced, it is their matchmaking systems. Aside fromMonster Hunter Risein terms of recent installments, unlike other online multiplayer games, players are not placed within the same gathering hub as they would be in the likes ofDestiny. Issues with random disconnections or not being able to join quests due to cutscenes not playing can be frustrating to deal with.

Since Capcom is more than likely going to stick with this format forWilds, it is a perfect opportunity to enhance the filtering system when matchmaking, to allow players to find others with specific builds, weapons, or gear that adhere to a particular monster hunt. A system as such hearkens back toDragon’s Dogma Dark Arisenand its pawn system, where players can find pawns with specific skills or perks. This will be a huge benefit in combat, allowing each member in a quest to be ready and have the appropriate equipment or element types.

4Classes Aside From Weapons

Players Can Change Weapons At Any Given Time

Monster Hunter World,Rise, and other games in the franchise feature perks and buffs within certain armor sets, or other equipment. There are so manycharacter buildswith armor sets and weapons that players can use, to where they essentially function as classes.

While this works well, it would be great to seeMonster Hunter Wildstake another page out ofDragon’s Dogma Dark Arisen’s format, and introduce different classes that give players particular skills or abilities that are akin to vocations in the aforementioned RPG. Since it may mean weapons would be locked to certain classes, this is unlikely, but it would introduce a new aspect for the franchise’s modern-day titles.

5Unlockable Combat Skills

Weapon Upgrades Are High Priority In World & Rise

In the same vein as the aforementioned additions of classes andDragon’s Dogma-inspired combat, allowing classes to come with their ownskills and special attackswould make classes far more relevant. While it may come down to lore and what is possible for hunters in theMonster Hunterfranchise to be able to pull off in combat, it would add a new spin to combat entirely.

Maintaining players' ability to use any weapon of their choice and the current attacks of those weapons, but having special and unique skills be exclusive to those said classes, would double down on the progression system already present in bothWorldandRise, further pushing the franchise to one of the best out there.
