The currently announced lineup of games for the Xbox Series X certainly looks impressive, with iconic, exclusive titles such asHaloandGears of Warreturning to form for the next gen console, but some fans can’t help but feel as though something is missing. Of course, this is referring to the Xbox exclusive which hasn’t seen a main entry title in almost 10 years,Fable. Many believe that 2020 may finally beFable’s year, and if that’s the case, it is very likely that an announcement forFable 4will be coming very soon given that the year is already over half way through.
Fable 3released back in October of 2010, and though there have been a few spin off games sprinkled in here and there, fans have desperately waited for a true sequel to the beloved title. Rumors, leaks, and the like have been plentiful each year, but each year Microsoft remains silent about the status or existence ofFable 4. This year isn’t much different, honestly, but fans have hope that the new console will bring about the return of the franchise in all its glory, now on the new and improved Xbox Series X instead.

Fable 4 Rumors
One surefire way to tell if a fanbase is itching for a new game is the presence of rumors, andFable 4has no shortage of them. Each year it seems more rumors and leaks come out of the woodworks, get fans excited about the potential of a sequel finally coming, and then disappoint shortly thereafter as it turns out they were false or fabricated. Even the more concrete evidence, such asMicrosoft renewing theFabletrademark, doesn’t really confirm anything as this is standard practice among developers to keep IP secure.
The most recent leak claims thatPlayground Games is developingFable 4, but the story details sound pretty unreal for aFablegame. The leak purports that the story will take place years in the future after a giant asteroid has destroyed Albion, which has since been rebuilt into a shadow of its former glory. The player is then tasked with stopping yet another asteroid from undoing the world’s hard work, an endeavor which will apparently require the use of time travel and potentially even interplanetary travel. Since that leak, there have been several rumors as well, but these have all been shown to be false.
Fable 4 at Xbox Series X First Party Event
Later this month,Microsoft is holding an Xbox Series X eventduring which it will showcase numerous first party games coming to the system. Though fans can certainly expect to seeGears of WarandHalo Infiniteat this event, many have their fingers crossed for aFable 4reveal. If the game is going to release this year after all, it is almost necessary for the reveal to happen before the end of July, as that leaves just enough time before the official release. If it’s going to be a game for next year, then it’s still a solid move.
Regardless, many would agree thatXbox needs to answer PS5’s gameplay reveal withFable 4, as there isn’t much else it could show that would produce as much hype. The fact thatFablefans are still so avidly in support of the game ten years after its last major release shows that there’s a dedicated fan base already in place; there’s literally nothing to lose when making a game like that. To be clear, nothing has confirmed the existence ofFable 4, and for all anyone knows, it could not even be in development yet, but if it is, fans will most likely hear about it at the Xbox event on July 23rd.
Fable 4is rumored to be in development.
