Summary
World of Warcrafthas reverted a number of controversial changes it had previously implemented on itsClassicservers. This was done in no small part due to the outcry ofWorld of Warcraftfans who petitioned Blizzard to get rid of the changes inClassic.
Recently,World of Warcraft Classicunderwent a sizable update in preparation for Season of Discovery Phase 4. A handful of significant changes were made toClassicEra and Hardcore as well – much to the dismay of the players, who immediatelypetitionedWorld of Warcraftto revert the serversto their “perfectly imperfect” forms, with no changes from the original game.

It seems likeWorld of Warcraft Classicheard its fanbase loud and clear. Abouta week after theWorld of Warcraftupdate that added them, Blizzard announced it was undoing most of these changes onClassicEra and Hardcore realms. In the announcement,WoWrecognized that, while these quality-of-life improvements sought to fix long-standing faction imbalances and gaps, implementing them on theClassicEra servers was shortsighted, and that it should not have done so without discussing it with the community first.
WoW Classic Era Patch Reverts – June 28, 2025
That said, not all the recent changes have been reverted yet.World of Warcraft Classicalso updated the old Guild UIwith a more modern version recently – a change that still persists on the servers at the moment. Blizzard explained this was because the updated UI helps a great deal with managing an in-game community – especially in comparison with the clunkyClassicversion – but likewise recognizes changing it out of nowhere was not the right move.WoW Classicis working on finding another option for the Guild UI that both the team and the community can be happy with in the future.
The biggest problem with these changes was the lack of transparency. “This lapse in communication was not in line with our values, and we need to do better here,”WoWcommunity manager Kaivax said. He confirmed theClassic WoWteam didn’t have any plans to make other major changes to the retro servers soon, but that if it did, it would “endeavor to discuss any potential community-led desire for changes with the community, well in advance of actually implementing any updates.” Hopefully, this meansWorld of Warcraft Classicfans won’t see ripples from Season of Discoveryor similar changes ever again.
All in all, players were satisfied withWorld of Warcraft Classic’s response to the matter. While they would like the Guild UI to be reverted as well, they understand Blizzard’s desire to make a more seamless experience for fans all the same. At the end of the day, this interaction is proof thatWorld of Warcraftplayers should make their voices known, as it is clear Blizzard wants to do right by the community.
