The PS5 Future of Gaming stream was a huge success, and ton of exciting games, both old and new, were announced to be coming to Sony’s next console. Whencompared to Xbox Series X’s Inside Xbox Gameplay Reveal, there’s almost no contest. One was a well received and highly anticipated showcase while the other ended up being a letdown due to poorly set expectations. If Xbox wants to come back from this setback, the best thing it could do would be to announce an enticing Xbox Series X exclusive among others at its July event, and what better option for that thanFable 4?
For some time now,Fable 4has been believed to be in development, with many claiming that it is all but confirmed at this point. Unfortunately, there has still never been an official announcement revealing the game or even confirming its existence, leading many to doubt whether the game is actually coming or not. TheFablefranchise certainly isn’t what the Xbox is known for, not anymore anyway, but it is one of the defining titles on each generation of its consoles. Given it has been quite some time since a mainstreamFablegame hit the market, it seems clear that fans are ready to hear some news.

PS5 Gameplay Reveal
ThePS5 Future of Gaming eventput out a lot of really heavy hitters and even finally showcased the PS5 design. Of the entries, some of the more noticeable ones includeRatchet & Clank: A Rift Apart, theDemon’s Soulsremake,Resident Evil 8, and PlayStation exclusiveHorizon: Forbidden West. All of these titles got fans super hyped up for the PS5, whereas the Xbox Gameplay reveal showed mostly indie games or lesser known games, and what popular ones it did show were overshadowed by the lack of actual gameplay. Still, it’s worth noting that Xbox’s big showcase, one meant to be on the same level, is coming in July.
The Case For Fable 4
As mentioned previously, theFablefranchise isn’t necessarily the first thing fans think of when they hear Xbox, but it is definitely up there. What sets this series apart from otherpopular Xbox exclusiveslikeHaloorGears of Waris its relative scarcity when placed side by side with those things.Halo 5, for example, came out 5 years ago and has had a few spin offs since then.Gears of War 5just came out last year as well. When compared toFable, which hasn’t seen a main entry sequel since 2010, those games seem readily available. On the other hand, fans are dying for a trueFablegame in the glory of next gen consoles.
Fablealso stands out from everything else the Xbox Series X has to offer as well. In terms of well known games, most of the titles found on Xbox tend to be shooters or Sci-fi adjacent, soFable’s classic fantasy is a nice change of pace. What’s more, this franchise basically pioneered the concept of making choice matter in a game, something which many-a-developer have been trying to perfect since then. IfFable 4managed to get this aspect right, it could really set it apart from other games andgive the Xbox Series X a leg up on the PS5.

Of course,Fableisn’t the only game that could accomplish this effect. There are likely other games which would be capable of producing similar hype, but this franchise stands out as the most unique and the most capable of generating a visceral response from fans. With any luck, Xbox will announce andreveal gameplay fromFable 4soonbefore fans have all but made up their mind on which console they intend to get this holiday season. Brand loyalty is certainly a strong force, but a great game likeFable 4may be able to contend with it.
