Thursday afternoon Microsoft posted a blog in which it explained in detail its plans forXbox Series Xbackward compatibility. Its been long known that theXbox Series Xwould run a large amount of Xbox One games, but the full extent of those plans wasn’t confirmed. It’s now official that the Xbox Series X Microsoft is aiming to support all Xbox One games on the Xbox Series X, though there is one notable exception to the rule.
At the very least, it’s a completely understandable exception. The Xbox Series X will unfortunately not support theKinect camera, and as such, it will not support Kinect-required games via backward compatibility. The Xbox Kinect motion-tracking camera will have to remain a piece of Xbox One history along with all of the memorable games associated with it.

It can’t be understated how big of a goal this is for Microsoft, though. All Xbox One games will run on the Xbox Series X. And further, Microsoft says it’s working to ensure that they’ll all be working by the time of theXbox Series X launch.
Microsoft says that Xbox One gamers should expect their games to be better than ever on Xbox Series X, and that certain games could either have faster loading times or overall better performance while running on the new console. Microsoft even says that “most"Xbox One gameswill run better on Xbox Series X, in one way or another.
While Microsoft doesn’t go into detail about why it’s providing such robust support for previous generation consoles on Xbox Series X, it’s clear based on the company’s previously described philosophies.Microsoftdoesn’t want to force Xbox gamers to make the leap to Xbox Series X until they’re ready. And for those that do, Xbox doesn’t want them to feel like they’re abandoning their platform of choice. The goal is to make it as easy as possible to make the generational jump when and if the Xbox gamer is ready.
Xbox is delivering on its philosophies in more ways than just backward compatibility, of course. AllXbox Game Studios will run on both Xbox Series X and Xbox Onefor the next several years. Xbox Game Pass and other subscriptions work across platforms, as will Xbox peripherals. And Xbox likely has more announcements to make in the months to come.
